The Civil War transformed American society in ways that are still contested and incomplete. Abraham Lincoln’s words and actions continue to frame the aspirations and debates around American politics.
You’re invited to join Dr. Jeremi Suri, the author of “Civil War by Other Means,” on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, in Union Theater at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, as he examines the many legacies of the Civil War and how knowledge of those legacies can improve our democracy today. The United States will not fight another civil war, but the Civil War is not over yet.
Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. with the program beginning at 6:30 p.m.  This is a free program to attend, but advance registration is required.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Jeremi Suri holds the Mack Brown Distinguished Chair for Leadership in Global Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a professor in the university’s Department of History and the LBJ School of Public Affairs. Dr. Suri is the author and editor of eleven books on contemporary politics and foreign policy, most recently The Impossible Presidency: The Rise and Fall of America’s Highest Office. His other books include Henry Kissinger and the American Century, Liberty’s Surest Guardian: American Nation-Building from the Founders to Obama, and Power and Protest: Global Revolution and the Rise of De´tente. He writes widely for many publications and is also the host of the podcast This Is Democracy. He tweets at @JeremiSuri.
