A Civil War veteran speaks to guests about his life on the battlefield and at home after the war in this short play hosted in the museum’s Union Theater.

Private Albert, a member of the 95th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment, fought in forty battles before returning to civilian life. Finding work as a farmer and gardener, he eventually settled in Saunemin, Ill., where he lived for over forty years.

It’s a tale of sacrifice and rebuilding that could be told by thousands of veterans, but Albert’s story has additional layers that make it unforgettable. Private Albert, written by Ed MacMurdo and performed by M.E. Young, is a true story about the enduring struggle for acceptance and belonging in the world.

The one-act play will be presented on a regular basis through June. Tickets are free with regular admission to the museum.

Running Time: 18 minutes, followed by a short Q & A with the actor and author.
