During the Second Industrial Revolution, rapid industrial growth changed the way people lived, dressed, and decorated their homes. As wealth grew and mass-produced goods became available, society began to value luxury and appearance as signs of success. This program looks at how fashion, design, and social expectations came together to shape women’s identities and roles. Using images and artifacts, participants will explore how aesthetics, industry, and gender norms influenced one another. Join us in person at the Illinois State Museum in downtown Springfield or virtually via Zoom. This event is free to attend with no registration required.
