“December 7th, 1941, a date which will live in infamy” stated President Franklin Roosevelt a day after the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Seven battleships, the pride of the Pacific fleet, lay at the bottom of the harbor. Americans were stunned by the devastating loss, but, continued FDR, “The American people, in their righteous might, will win through to absolute victory.”

Dr. Mark DePue discusses one of the most momentous days of World War II, the date that woke a sleeping giant and launched America into global war. This will be the final program for Dr. DePue at the ALPLM, as he will be retiring as our Oral History Program Director at the end of the year. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear Dr. DePue share this important moment in our nation’s history through his perspective as a military historian and the compelling first-hand accounts from our oral history collection of the men and women who lived it.
