The Hoogland Center for the Arts is excited to announce the internationally acclaimed musical COME FROM AWAY will be arriving in the LRS Theatre at the Hoogland on October 23–25 and October 29–November 1, 2026. This powerful and deeply human story will be directed by Leigh Steiner and brought to life by a community of local artists, performers, musicians, and designers
COME FROM AWAY has touched audiences around the world with its heartfelt storytelling, vibrant ensemble work, and moving score by Irene Sankoff and David Hein. Honored with major awards including Best New Musical at the 2019 Olivier Awards and Outstanding Musical at the 2017 Drama Desk Awards, the show continues to resonate as a reminder of the compassion and generosity people are capable of—especially in difficult times.
Based on true events surrounding 9-11, COME FROM AWAY tells the story of the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, whose residents unexpectedly welcomed the world on September 11, 2001. When 38 planes were diverted to their town, the people of Gander opened their homes, shared meals, offered music and laughter, and forged lasting connections with 7,000 stranded travelers.
