Outraged, an award-winning family drama, is set against the backdrop of the 1908 Springfield Race Riot that terrorized the black citizens of Springfield, Illinois, and gave rise to the NAACP. After facing a devastating loss during racial violence in the previous century, Bonaparte Baker steps off a train in Springfield, Illinois, on August 14, 1908. His arrival leads to an uneasy reunion and sparks a flashpoint with his estranged brother-in-law. As historic mob violence erupts and targets the Black citizens of Abraham Lincoln’s hometown, Bonaparte seeks reconciliation and atonement by doing the unthinkable.
Outraged will be presented in partnership with “3 Hot Days in August,” the 2nd annual city-wide commemoration of the events of 1908.
