“The Nature of Freedom: A Literary Commemoration of Juneteenth” is a readers theater production – a style of theater in which the actors present the script without costumes, scenery, or special lighting. Actors use only scripts and vocal expression to tell the story. The 35-minute presentation includes excerpts from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Langston Hughes, Harriet Tubman, Dr. Maya Angelou, Robert Smalls, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and Henry Bibb. The play is directed by ALPLM actor Reggie Guyton. 

  • Museum doors open 5:30 p.m.
  • ALPLM's new exhibit, Solidarity Now!, will remain open until 6:30 p.m
  • Theater doors will open at 6:15 p.m.Theater doors will open at 6:15 p.m.
  • Small Beginnings at 6:30 p.m., followed by a short Q & A.

  • The Nature of Freedom at 7:00 p.m. (approx. 35-minute performance)
