The Civil War was a crucial turning point in our nation’s history. That was especially evident in the way technology was changing at an increasingly faster pace and played an important part in how the war was fought. Join ALPLM Acquisitions Chief Ian Hunt for “Tales from the Vault: Civil War Technology.” He’ll take a closer look at artifacts that illustrate the changes in technology during the Civil War and how it impacted actions on the battlefield. Among the highlights of the program will be comparing a muzzle loading rifle to a Spencer carbine as well as how elected leaders in Washington were able to communicate with military commanders in the field in real time.

Tales from the Vault is a monthly collaboration between the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, the Illinois State Museum, and the Lincoln Home National Historic Site.

This will be a “hybrid” event with the opportunity to attend in-person or virtually. The program will take place in our library’s multi-purpose room. The event is free; reservations are not required. To watch virtually via Facebook Live, please go to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum Facebook page. Open the page at the appointed time and scroll to the post highlighting the live event. Once you’re there, simply click on the image and watch the live video stream.
