It's about that time of year where we adventure out in search of that one perfect pumpkin to carve, weget scared walking through haunted houses and enjoy all the events fall brings. Oh and how could I forget, a nice cup of hot apple cider, yum!

Movie Under the Lights – Halloweentown! September 14

Rockin' Nite Maze – 90s Style at Bomke's Patch October 4 - 5

Navigate the corn maze in the dark with only your flashlights and glowsticks! Wagon ride, play area, foam and bubble party, music. Food is available for purchase.

New Salem Candlelight Walk October 4 - 6

The Candlelight Walk offers the only opportunity to see the village at night. Period clothed interpreters will be inside many of the log homes and shops in the village to talk about life in 19th century Illinois. Gingerbread and cider will be served in the Rutledge Tavern.

Echoes of Yesteryear: A Walk through Oak Ridge Cemetery October 6

A free walking tour featuring seven actors dressed in period costume telling the personal stories of the historic individual they are portraying. Most are namesakes of local schools. Participants board buses and will be driven to the area of the tour. Tour will be around 2 hours and maps will be provided for the 1/2 mile tour.

Young Frankenstein October 11 - 20

Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein inherits his family's estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor, and a leggy lab assistant, Inga, Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. "It's alive!" he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather's. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds.

Carve for the Carillon October 12 - 13

Bring your kids, family, friends, or any group to this fun, family-friendly event to help carve over 2,000 pumpkins that will light the way for annual Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular the following week.

Indian Summer Festival October 12 - 13

The most popular event of the year at the garden, when fall colors are just starting to peak. Enjoy great music, delicious food, vendors, children’s activities and some exciting additions you’re sure to enjoy.

Lincoln Home Employee’s Assn. Trick or Treat: October 18

This event is free and open to children 12 years of age and younger and will begin in the Lincoln Home National Historic Site Visitor Center. This year’s Trick or Treat event will feature candy stops at several historic houses throughout the festively decorated Lincoln era neighborhood, volunteers in period clothing, games, and much more. Living History throughout the night along with Jr. Ranger activities. Check out the Cool Cruisers Car Club as well.

Murder Mystery Dinner – The Mummy of Edwards Place October 18 - 19

A horror B-movie, "Curse of the Edwards Place Mummy" is being filmed at Edwards Place and they are filming a scene which needs extras dressed in Halloween costumes (that's where you come in!). During the filming, the director is killed in grisly fashion! Guests will need to put their detective skills to the test to discover which of the six suspects is the murderer?

Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular October 18 - 19

Enjoy the sparkling splendor of more than 2,000 hand-carved, illuminated jack-o-lanterns surrounding the Carillon at Washington Park at this annual family-friendly Halloween event.

Annual Spooktacular - Evening with Abe October 19

The Spooktacular Evening is suitable for all ages and includes historical characters haunting’ the exhibit journeys, special eerie lighting and music, a kids' costume contest, spooky storytelling, crafts and games!

Rocky Horror Picture Show – Live: October 24 - 26

The famous rock and roll musical about a "Sweet Transvestite from Transsexual Transylvania" is live on stage. Survival kits will again be available for $6. Only the approved survival kit may be brought into the theatre. Kits will be sold one hour prior to showtime and will be available to the first 125 patrons. Kit includes all the necessary items to participate with the show.

Zoolie Ghoulie October 25 - 27

The Zoo is transformed into a haunting Halloween haven, complete with these not too scary, family-friendly activities.

Museum After Hours: Rockin’ Halloween October 25

Come celebrate Halloween and the opening of two new art exhibitions at the Museum. Enjoy music performed by Rock of Ages, wine from West of Wise Winery, beer from Obed and Isaac’s, and fun Halloween activities. Costumes are encouraged.  

Halloween at the Market October 26

This annual event includes costume contests for kids, families and dogs as well as FREE, fun-filled activities for the whole family, including hands-on activities and trick-or-treating with the market vendors. This event also wraps up the 2019 Farmers Market season. 

Annual Halloween Parade October 26

The Parent Place is hosting its 3rd Annual Halloween Parade in downtown Springfield on 5th and 6th Streets. Families will line the street as floats, children and other special Halloween guests parade the streets! Watch for festive floats and entries in this lighted evening parade! 

Trick or Treat at the Old State Capitol October 26

Join us for some pre-parade Halloween fun at the Old State Capitol!  From 5 pm - 7 pm children and their families can trick-or-treat and enjoy fun activities at the historic site. This event is free and no reservations are needed.

Goosebumps Music Concert October 26

The concert features a variety of vocal pieces, interpretive performance art and organ classics for the Halloween season. We invite you to dress for the concert — all in black, all in white, in costume — in order to participate more fully in the experience. 

Fright Film Fest October 26 - 27

Get in the spirit of the season, as some of the best horror films materialize on the Legacy's Grand Screen! And with our brew and view, the spirits aren't confined to the screen!

Mall-o-Ween October 27

Allowing children to trick-or-treat and enjoy the holiday in a safe environment. Children of all ages are encouraged to dress in costumes and enjoy a multitude of activities throughout the mall including live music, princess pictures, and interactive games.

Bomke’s Patch

They offer over 50 different varieties of pumpkin/gourds of every shape and size. You can pick your selection of pumpkins from our pre-picked selection, or take some clippers, provided by the farm, and cut them right off the vine! They offer children’s area, corn & bean mazes & petting zoo.

Kristen’s Pumpkin Patch

They have pumpkins, gourds, corn stalks, a corn maze and hayrides. They provide wagons and clippers for you to go into the patch and pick your own pumpkins. It's fun for all ages!

Indian Knoll Pumpkins 

This patch has over 55 varieties of pumpkins, gourds and squash. They offer free indoor activities, wagon rides through the patch, outdoor barnyard obstacles and a game area. (Mechanicsburg)

Apple Barn 

They offer apples, apple cider, pumpkins, baked goods and more. (Chatham)

Pumpkin Creek Farms 

They offer hayrides, barrel train rides, kid corn maze, u-pick pumpkins and more. (Sherman)

Indian Creek Farmstead 

This patch features 70 varieties of pumpkins, farm animals, a corn maze and hayrides. (Petersburg)

A90-minute 5 block lantern lit walking tour uses the Lincoln sites as the backdrop for strange & bizarre stories surrounding Lincoln’s life and his death; Lincoln’s bizarre dreams of death, Spiritualism, Mary’s seances in the White House, and skullduggery at the tomb site. This is a factual history tour that includes some of the ghostly lore surrounding the Lincolns.
