“The sun did not shine. It was too wet to play. So we sat in the house. All that cold, cold, wet day.” The Cat in the Hat, Dr. Seuss
Got cabin fever and no cat in a hat to keep the kids entertained? Unfortunately January, February, & even March in the Midwest means not the best weather for the kids to go out and play. Luckily if you're visiting Springfield, we have many options for indoor play to let the kids have an amazing afternoon, day or even weekend of play.
Just Play
Ergadoozy - Specializing in play for kids 12 and under, Ergadoozy has 7 different areas for kids play. Check out the 5 story jungle climber with triple wave slide & hand pedal train ride!
Bounce Tag - Located in a large spacious building, Bounce Tag has brought the inflatable bounce houses indoors. They also have play activity areas, laser tag & an arcade with prize counter.
Sports Play
Sky Zone - Located on the Westside of Springfield, Sky Zone is a giant trampoline park with lots of jumping fun. Play some Skyhoops (trampoline basketball), tug-of-war on the foam block pits, or just jump around.
Skateland South - A Springfield roller skating institution, Skateland South has been around for decades. Spin those wheels around the rink and "shoot the duck" while they spin the tunes.
Educational Play
Kidzeum of Health & Science - Located downtown near other historic attractions, the Kidzeum is a facility for children to learn about a healthy body, healthy Earth, & healthy community. Three story tall Active Alex will educate the kids while keeping them entertained.
Mary Ann MacLean Play Museum (closed until March 2025) located inside the Illinois State Museum – Inside the Illinois State Museum you’ll find the Mary Ann MacLean Play Museum. Designed for kids ages 3-10, the museum lets kids examine fossils, crawl through a cave, and much more fun activities.
Shopping Play
Need to do some shopping? When you’re in Springfield, both SCHEELS and White Oaks Mall have play areas for children. Designed for younger kids, the play areas are perfect for one parent to relax and watch the kids play while one parent does some shopping. Everyone will leave happy!
And speaking of White Oaks Mall, be sure to check out Malibu Jack's while you are there. Malibu Jack's is a massive indoor theme park complete with bowling, go karts, mini golf, laser tag, arcade and more!
Want to make it a full weekend of play? Check out our hotel listing to find a hotel with an indoor pool while you are visiting these attractions. Make memories with the kids they'll never forget!
