Springfield in 2022  1. Walk, Hike and Bike History Tour: Starting April 15 - mid November check out a brand new, free way to explore Springfield in 2022 being offered by IDNR's State Historic Sites in Springfield.Enjoy a series of inspiring outdoor experiences that will connect you to our must see museums and monuments. Guided experiences range from 1 -2 hours and include walking, hiking and bike rides. All experiences are limited group sizes and follow all current guidelines outlined by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Tours include: Friends of Lincoln Hike, Military History Hike, History Bike Tour, Black History Walk Tour, 1908 Race Riot Walking Tour and the Design like Frank Lloyd Wright Drawing Tour, Designing for a Change Women's History Walk.Want to learn more?? Visit their Facebook page here or the IDNR website by clicking here2. The Motordome at Motorheads: Last year it was the World's Largest Outdoor Route 66 Shield and now this year the Motordome!  Motorheads Bar, Grill & Museum is now home to an entertainment complex second to none!  The Motordome is an indoor/outdoor complex complete with bars, food truck and more entertainment than you can imagine!   Ohh...don't forget to take a pic and share with us by using #visitspringfield. We can't wait to see your experiences! More info, click here.3. Stories of Survival: Object-Image-Memory: Embrace hope through this travelling exhibition from the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center.  When you've lost everything, a single object can take on extraordinary meaning.  This exhibit reflects upon the individual stories of 59 survivors of the Holocaust, genocides, and conflicts including Armenia, Bosnia, Cambodia, Iraq, Syria, Rwanda and South Sudan, told through objects, photographs and personal reflections.  Exhibit will be available March 23, 2022-January 22, 2023.   More info, ? here.4. Route History Mural: Route History's new mural pulls together the landmarks in African American history.  The mural was designed to inspire people to learn the history and the community that is not often found in history books.  Another addition is an outside exhibit of colorful street signs with the names of Black men who left a lasting impact on the Springfield community.  Artist: Korbin King
Find more inspiration here5. History Comes Alive 13th Anniversary Summer Program - New in 2022: Returning for a 13th summer, Abraham & Mary Lincoln will lead a cast of characters on a trip back in time. Visit historic sites throughout the city and learn about their lives and friends in Springfield.  New this year, visitors can reserve their spot on a free shuttle on Saturday morning to journey out to Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site!  Reservations will be required and available soon, watch the Visit Springfield website for more info.  Foodies can look forward to the all-new History Cooks collection!  Each week the Lincoln Home National Historic Site will feature a cooking demonstration that ties in Springfield's historic past with an experience that you can see, taste and smell!  You can collect all of the season's exclusive recipe cards too!  Keep an eye on our website for updates coming early April! Not new in 2022, but now is the time to make plans for a weekend of food, fun and music in downtown Springfield!  The 21st Anniversary International Route 66 Mother Road Festival roars into town September 23-25!  Registration now open, start your engine here!
