Springfield is shaking things up with “Burger Week.” Visit Springfield is partnering with the Illinois Times to spotlight our city’s amazing food scene. On Jan 23, 217 Burger Week will kick off in Springfield, Illinois. For the first time ever the City of Springfield will be celebrating hamburgers that will make even the most discerning foodies smile.
For one week only (Jan. 23-29), Springfield’s finest restaurants, bars and other eateries will serve up some of the most delicious, creative and unique off menu burgers at a super discounted rate. So how does it work? Each day, participating restaurant and bars will prepare a select number of hand crafted one of a kind hamburgers for just five bucks a hamburger. So mark your calendar and set your alarm to avoid the lines. Then plan your 217 Burger Week the only way that a foodie should. Strategically!
There are several ways to accomplish the goal of basking in burger heaven. For those familiar to Springfield, you can conquer your taste buds by hitting select gastro-pubs, bars, fast food chains and fine dining establishments. That means planning a visit to dining spots like Maldaner's for the “Asian Burger,” as well as Fox Run Restaurant & Lounge for the “Honolulu Burger.” For those unfamiliar with the city President Abraham Lincoln called home, one smart bet is to make your selection by burger name. Self proclaimed sci-fi geeks and foodie nerds will love the “Beam Me Up” burger from Starship & the Enterprise Grill. Need a cure for a night of partying? The “Double Trouble” burger is the creation of Weebles Bar and Grill, claiming it as the great hangover burger. While Obed & Isaac's Microbrewery & Eatery created a beef patty that might stop you in your tracks with the “Give ‘Em the Bird” hamburger. All of these burgers are worthy of at least one taste test or two or three for the names alone. Then again, food snobs will appreciate burgers like “The Hombre” that can be found only at Boones Saloon. The 7 oz. beef patty hamburger is grilled to perfection on a brioche bun. Then it is topped with pepper jack cheese, chipotle candied bacon, five pepper relish fried onions and pepper straws. Doesn’t that sound amazing!
